SHUT DOWN SMALL BUSINESSES

Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.

On March 16, 2020, Gov. Walz’s Executive Order 20-04 shut down all businesses that he considered non-essential While Menards. Walmart, and Target were allowed to stay open, your local clothing store had to be shut down. Small businesses were decimated, while large corporations were able to operate.

“Beginning no later than March 17, 2020 at 5:00 pm,…. places of public accommodation are closed to ingress, egress, use, and occupancy by members of the public ….. ‘place of public accommodation’ means a business, or an educational, refreshment, entertainment, or recreation facility, or an institution of any kind, whether licensed or not, whose goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations are extended, offered, sold, or otherwise made available to the public.” (Executive Order 20-04)

Anyone who commits a “willful violation of this Executive Order is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction must be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000, or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days.” (Executive Order 20-04, March 16, 2020)

The number of average daily diners in Minneapolis is still less than half what the city enjoyed pre-Covid

“The number of daily diners in the city of Minneapolis was down an average of 54.3% in July — so the city had less than half the number of people eating out, compared with July 2019, according to OpenTable.”
